GRANDMA'S APPLE PIE

Here is a lovely pie that's my gran's recipe. My mom passed it on to me and I have been making it since I was 12.

First peel 6-8 apples(I prefer Macintosh)
and slice into salted cold water

Pastry:

1 and 3/4 cup flour
mix in 3/4 tsp salt
cut in 3/4 cup of shortening
sprinkle in 5-6 tbsp of water

mix well, can be a tempermental pastry but is very flaky in the end.

Drain apples and mix in bowl
3/4 cup flour
1 cup sugar
sprinkle in cinnamon and nutmeg(I never measure)
mix in apples

Pour apples into pastry shell
add some small chunks of butter and then sprinkle with vanilla extract.
Add top layer of pastry and flute edges
cut a steam hole in the middle
brush top of pastry with milk to brown

bake at 425F for 15 minutes
then 350F for 45 minutes

will be finished when you see bubbling through the steam hole.

Bon Appetit!! :D

Thanks Sarahangel ....

..... you've never made one for me

I know you never know when I can eat apples. You need to give me warning so I have time not to eat anything else with apples.

Hey you have relatives in the maritimes, tell them to seem me some Wolf River apples! You dont' need 6-8 of them 3-4 large ones would do.
I ate so many apples .... :circ: but they were soo good and no reactions either!

Allergies are bad -- those apples were yum yum!

But if I know if advance I can avoid all the other things that I'm sensative to and then I could have a slice!

Its only a sensativity not a full blown rush me to the hospital allergy yet!

I must admit I never know that when you ate apples it wasn't supose to make your lips and mouth tingle!
